FERETIA APODANTHERA

Family Rubiaceae

Feretia apodanthera is native to much of tropical Africa including Kenya.  It is not usually seen in gardens it can be seen growing wild. It is a deciduous small tree with twisting branches and flowers profusely after rain.

FERNANDOA MAGNIIFICA

Family Bignoniaceae

Fernandoa magnifica, sometimes referred to as ‘snake tree’, is now endangered.  It is a medium-sized tree with a quite rough, grey to pale brown trunk.  It grows well at the coast, and is so beautiful when in flower that it is worth having in the garden.  Up dated 16/9/2018.

FICUS BENJAMINA 

 Family Moraceae

Fisuc benjamina also known as the weeping fig tree comes from Southeast Asia and Northern Austrralia.  It can be grown as a house or garden plant.    It makes a beautiful ‘standard’ where the roots are contained.  If grown in open ground, the roots can be destructive.  Up dated 16/9/2018.

FICUS CARICA 

Ficus carica produces the most delicious fruit.  It needs to be grown in full sun, but out of the sea breeze which burns the leaves.  It needs to be grown in full sun and kept on the dry side with little fertilizer; otherwise the plant will produce a mass of vegetation and no fruit.
